DEP oil spill

Northeast Sewer & Drain Service has a great working relationship with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP for short) We were called to a home in Arundle Maine for a residential oil spill. When we arrived on sight, it seems that someone had cut the oil lines to the tank and drained them into the positive hole in the basement. Someone noticed it draining into a large wet land area.... DEP was called and they contained the spill, Northeast Sewer & Drain service was called to high pressure jet the positive drain lines for any residual oil. All the oil was...

SEWER INSPECTIONS FOR HOME BUYERS…..Call a professional!

SEWER INSPECTIONS FOR HOME BUYERS…..Call a professional! Very few property owners are aware that they are responsible for the sewer line (sewer lateral) from the building to the city main. Broken, flat, bellied, offset, or root-infested sewer lines can cause sewage to back up into the house or commercial building leading to extensive property damage in the home or business. Sewer back-ups can cause thousands of dollars in property damage and loss of valuable operating time for businesses. Although insurance companies will usually pay for cleanup and restoration caused by a sewer back up; repair or replacement of the line...

Pipe patching

Ted fr0m Elliot Maine contacted us with some questions concerning his sewer line. He lives in a late 1960's home and as is with most houses built in that era, all the sewer lines were poured into the concrete floor making access difficult. With pipe patching it is made a easier. Part of the basement floor is removed and a section of pipe is removed and the resin patch is applied to the interior of the pipe (you can't see it in this picture) the damaged part runs under the foundation walls to the exterior sewer line. Resin is left to cure for...

Broken or clogged sewer line symptoms..

Sometimes when your sewer line breaks you don't notice it for sometime, while others will back up immediately...Either way there are tell tale signs that your sewer has backed-up or is broken. First is there bubbling in the toilet?...And sometimes It really bubbles.  This picture is a simulation it really doesn't foam, it's more like a gurgle Second, the toilet, sink or tub will drain very slowly. If the sink and toilet in only one bathroom are draining slowly then it's probably a clogged interior line not your main sewer line.  If all the drains are draining slowly then it's a main...

Drain cleaning lingo

Drain cleaning can mean different things to different people.  Having owned a drain cleaning service company for the last 7 years I have caught on to it......Almost Different demo graphics, areas.... that's the difference.  Someone living in rural Maine will have a septic system and someone living in the city of Portland will be hooked up to the cities main sewer system. But the catch is, if the person calling used to live in the country and had a septic system and now lives in the city and are on city sewer, it can get really confusing, so I've come up with a system,...

Sewer camera inspection for street paving

We have weathered the Blizzard of 2013!  Gorham Maine hit the jackpot of 35.6 inches.  I can attest, that is a lot of snow!  And as I look our my office window to sunny skies, I know another 12" is on the way:( But I know spring is right around the corner. City and towns in and around the Portland Maine area are starting to send out letters about street paving starting in April of 2013.  This mean that once your street is paved you may not open the street back up for 5 years without an enormous fine 5-10...

Drains in Maine

With Hurricane Sandy behind us, Maine fared pretty well.  We had a few major drain emergency's but Mainers took precautions and weathered this storm. Now with a Nor'easter bearing down on the east coast we are in for more heavy rain:(  Storm drains are at capacity!  Leaves and debris are covering drain grates....   If you see your storm drains collecting debris, please clean them off, this is first prevention for back ups and flooding. If you you are having drain problems and your basement keeps flooding, I would recommend having your lines televised by a drain camera. This a really inexpensive...
