Technology is moving faster than we can keep up sometimes, but that’s not always a bad thing.
10 years ago when sewer line video inspection or cctv pipe inspection first hit the market people were skeptical. Then the technology was expensive and the inspectors had to charge big money for an inspection service.
Fast forward to 2013…Sewer line inspection is quite common now and is done routinely when selling or buying a home, or when there are problems with your main line or your sewers backing up.
But beware of home inspectors that tell you that your line needs replacing. Ask to be there when they are inspecting the sewer line, you will be able to see if it’s broken or compromised on the screen. Sometimes roots in your sewer line can look like a break too, root infiltration in sewer lines is a very common and an easy fix that doesn’t’ cost a lot
So for sewer pipe inspectors, check to see how long they’ve been inspecting sewer lines? What cctv equipment they have, and if it’s up to date? Can they give a reference? Or call your local municipality and ask who they would recommend?
It’s not as easy as it looks.
You can always get a second opinion with a qualified drain cleaner who does CCTV inspections daily.
